  • Centre seeks Trai view on entry of government entities into broadcasting

The information and broadcasting ministry has sought Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's views on the proposal of central and state government entities to enter the broadcasting sector. Views have been sought on the entry of central and state government departments, government-owned companies, undertakings or joint ventures with the private sector and government funded entities. "The ministry made this reference recently as the issue of granting permission to state governments or its organs to run cable TV network has been drawing its attention from time to time, particularly with reference to the Trai recommendations restricting such entities to enter into broadcasting and distribution activities," an official release said.
