  • Samsung group eyes Kochi port project

    Samsung C&T of Korea has shown interest in developing a bulk cargo terminal at the Kochi port.The company has responded to the expression of interest floated by the port for redeveloping the old Matttanchery Wharf as a public–private partnership project, a port official confirmed.The project is estimated to cost around Rs 800 crore.The selected bidder will design, develop, finance and operate the project for 30 years.The official said the objective of the expression of interest floated by the port is to assess the market trend and response from potential bidders.Based on these information a tender will be floated.The port has entrusted the State-owned KITCO to carry out a feasibility study of the project which will be completed in two months time. The official said the wharf has 400 meters waterfront with 20 acres of back-up area.
